CHAPTER FOURTEEN

We have got to start really individualizing our neighborhoods, to start really getting to know the very people that you’re serving. Make sure that they can build a trust up with you, don’t just always expect to get someone’s respect, especially because of a certain job title. That’s some shit that will piss any person off, especially when you feel an entitlement for me to give you that respect when you’re speaking to me as a child. Why wouldn’t we take the time and also the coming together of communities, realizing that we all share the same problem, work together to defend our neighborhoods, because I swear, ain’t nobody else helping us out with that, when your black. And of course, you’re going to have some of those people that swear we’re doing the best way we can”, when that way clearly hasn’t been working in that planned way. Now, it almost seems like you’re just half-assing and feeling like your position you have in society, is better than my position in society.

My philosophy behind the whole situation in trying to fix what we have going on as a community, is to not think of yourself as better, but equal to all people, no matter your occupation or how much money you have; because remember, you can’t be understanding someone’s situation, and telling them what to do next, if you don’t really understand the situation at hand. Do you not understand that if you were to give someone, or even let someone hear you say something so far off about a situation in which you have had no prior experience, and you’ve never lived in an area where you have no clue what it takes for people to go through their daily life?

I really feel like what we have been doing, the progress that has been made over the years to where we are now, twenty nineteen, twenty-twenty; it’s like every time we do some good, or try to do some good, there’s always something involving us as the black community to intervene or try to come and destroy your happiness. Or, your drive to make real change in your community, shit this world. There’s going to be people out here that truly are comfortable with the way things are, even if it’s fucked up. They can be from the entertainers, to the politicians, to your got damn family and friends; but wait, let’s not forget the most important person to blame, you.

What am I doing right to help my community, this country to help them understand, that understanding and keeping it moving in a positive way, whether you agree, disagree, or, whatever the case? Understand that I said positive, stay positive in whatever you go through. We hear this statement pretty much all the time. The difference between those that have the will to stay positive, and those that don’t, we must not fault them for not understanding; but try to get them to understand, applying that with everything you do, will start to show.
